Nelly: April 15

I hope you got to enjoy the warm weather this week, even with all of the wind. I think we reached 91° on Thursday.

This week, we continued to Desensitize & Yield the Hindquarters Stage 1. We then added Yield the HQ Stage 2, Yield the Forequarters, Lunging Stage 1, & Sending. We also saddled towards the end of the week, which went well.

It has been nice to have a horse that's as easy to catch as Nelly; however, we are definitely having to establish some personal space boundaries.

While Nelly really hadn't shown many red flags during round penning, those did come out during Lunging Stage 1. The head shaking, stiffness, sticky feet, & even some kicking out. By the end of the week, that was going much smoother. These are some of the behaviors that are making her rides under saddle not as successful as they could be. Once we get these ironed out within the groundwork exercises, it shouldn't take much to carry that right to our ridden work.

Next week, we'll practice loading & unloading into my slant load trailer as we prepare to make the trip up to Knotty Equine on Wednesday, April 19th.

Next week will be a bit shorter as I'll head down to TX for my annual Business Mastermind for Horse Trainers, Thursday through Sunday.

Next week's update will be posted on Wednesday.

I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
