Hickory: October 7

This week, we spent some quality time in the round pen & continued to work on Desensitizing, Yielding the HQ & FQ, Flexing, Backing, Lunging Stage 1, & introduced Sending. With Hickory, I've focused quite a bit on Yielding the FQ & Backing as he has a tendency to try to get a bit closer than I'd like. Hickory is much more responsive & sensitive than Hero, but having responsive transitions in the round pen will still be important for those first rides under saddle. Like Hero, while he hasn't put any real effort into it, he has thought about jumping out a few times when he looks for a way to get out of the pressure of loping.

Next week, we'll continue to work inside & outside of the round pen. I would probably shoot to do the first saddles next week, but since we're doing Knotty Equine sessions, hopefully, dentals, & we'll be weaning calves, I'll probably hold off on that until the first part of the following week. - Lexy Nuesch

Next week's update will be posted on Friday.

I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
