TR: April 15

I hope you got to enjoy the warm weather, even with all of the wind. I think we reached 91° here on Thursday.

This week, we continued to Desensitize, Yield HQ & FQ, Lunging Stages 1 & 2, Sending, & Circle Driving. We also added Backing, Throw to a Stop, Saddling, & Popping the Stirrups. He was a bit cold-backed upon saddling initially but came out of it as we progressed through each session. He was quite unsure about Popping the Stirrups. He was a bit rushed when Lunging under saddle, so I used Throw to a Stop (tossing the lead rope over his neck, back, hindquarters, & hind legs) to help him realize that he could slow to a walk or stop instead of rushing & getting stiff in the halter.

With the warm weather, we had a few good days to hose the winter hair & dust off. Aside from the initial startled reaction to the spray of the water, he stood very well.

Next week, we'll practice loading & unloading with my slant load trailer in preparation for our trip up to Knotty Equine on Tuesday, April 18th.

Next week will be a bit shorter as I'll head down to TX for my annual Business Mastermind for Horse Trainers, Thursday through Sunday.

Next week's update will be posted on Wednesday.

I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
