Rowdy: January 6

It's safe to say that we've had enough snow to last us the rest of the winter here. If only we'd be that lucky!

After the ~15" of snow that dropped earlier in the week, we began working on our trailer loading. While Rowdy started out like a textbook trailer loading lesson, he got pretty sticky in his front feet & opted to back out with his front feet instead of stepping his hind feet in. It took a fair bit of time to realize the rest was in the trailer & that he was allowed to inch forward & finally step in. Thankfully, every horse I've worked with that has a hard time going in usually backs off quite well. That was the case with Rowdy.

I find it a bit more difficult/time-consuming when they load really well but are not confident enough to back off once they get all four feet in.

Today, he loaded without a problem!

We also continued to work on Bend at the Walk & Vertical Flexion at the Standstill, which has been going well.

I'm looking forward to getting them into the indoor arena in Bloomfield this weekend, where we can do some more loping.

Next week's update will be posted on Thursday.
