Another good week of progress for Roach!
Being in his small stall-like pen beside the round pen has really helped to quiet him down. Initially, the energy of me working another horse in the round pen had him worried in his pen. Now, he cocks a hind foot & falls asleep without worrying about what's going on. It's also helped him be more content when tied. When I tied him for his photos two weeks ago, he wanted to paw & was constantly moving. This week, he nearly fell asleep.
We've continued to Round Pen, which we'll probably begin to phase out of the everyday routine as he does really well. He's doing much better with Desensitizing to the Lead Rope & Stick & String; he's been doing really well with Yielding the Hindquarters & Forequarters, & Backing. This week, we added in Lunging Stage 1 & Flexing. Aside from going through the learning process, he's done well.
Today, we had our first fly spray lesson & once the flies left him alone, he decided this domestic life wasn't so bad. He was quiet enough that I was able to MagnaWave him for the first time.
If he continues on like this, he's going to be a ton of fun!
Next week, we'll likely Lead by the Feet & Lay Down in addition to continuing to add more groundwork exercises.
Next week's update will be posted on Friday.
