Newt: January 20

What another lovely week of extreme temps, snow, & wind. Hopefully, it's our last. When it jumped up into the 20s on Wednesday, Newt got a trim & we also worked on a bit of softening his nose to the ground in the halter & asking for a few steps back. This is another way that I can work on his relationship to contact that will carry over to our work under saddle, especially while things were still slick & drifted. Dennis... I mean, Newt the Menace unplugged the tank heater for the second time since we began using them this season. Hopefully, he doesn't make a habit of it; otherwise, I might have to get creative & come up with something to prevent him from being able to do that. He is definitely the trouble-maker/class clown in his pen.

Today, the wind switched from out of the northwest to out of the south, but at least the sun was out. The horses took advantage of it this afternoon to catch a nap.

Thankfully, we should see considerably "warmer" temps this week & much less wind so that we can get back to our normal schedule. A student of mine & I are hoping to be able to make a quick trip up to Rapid to watch Morgan show on Monday before coming back Tuesday morning if the weather/wind holds out for us tomorrow.
