I hope you & your family had a great Thanksgiving!
This week absolutely flew by. It sure did a 180° turn weather-wise. From nearly 70° on Wednesday to in the teens & snowing Thursday/Friday/Saturday. This week, I did minimal groundwork as we made our way to the arena. Once in the arena, I tightened the cinch & hopped on. My goal is not to HAVE to do groundwork every day before our ridden work. Now, of course, there will be days with this cooler weather when I'll check in & make sure it's still a tool that I can use, but it's not something I want to rely on doing every single day. We continued to work on Bend at the Walk, Bending Transitions, Loping Circles, Vertical Flexion at the Standstill, & Backing. I also introduced Draw to a Stop (the start of stopping using both reins). He's been doing relatively well with Bend at the Walk & Bending Transitions, but he's really showing that he wants to be soft vertically & responsive when Backing.
With the in-laws arriving earlier than anticipated on Wednesday in prep for hosting Thanksgiving on Thursday, I had to push our gravel road rides back & settled with a quick ride down the alley to the meadow, where we did a bit of One Rein Stops & Bend at the Walk to make sure that he could bring his mind back to me in a new environment.
Next week, the temps will climb back into the 40s. We'll spend a little bit of time in the arena working on our previous exercises & we'll head down the gravel road on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Next week's update will be posted on Friday.
I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
