Hickory: September 30

Over the past couple of weeks, the boys have been much more at ease. They eagerly await the feed cart. As we've continued to work on hand targeting, they approach me when I walk into the pen & are quite willing to be caught. We'll see if that sticks as we get deeper into work. Earlier this week, we did a bit of round penning & continued to work on Desensitizing while introducing Yielding the HQ & FQ, Backing, & a bit of Lunging Stage 1. Hickory is much more sensitive & willing to move forward than Hero is, but he also has a tendency to want to push into me. Once we firmly establish a solid foundation with Yielding the FQ & Backing, this should improve. Today, I also opted to split the boys up as they're pretty attached. Hickory will be pen mates with my older Mustang gelding for a bit. Hickory will start my deworming protocol on Wednesday. We're also scheduled to have a session with Jen of Knotty Equine on October 11th & may potentially be scheduling dentals for the same day.

On Wednesday, I sprained my right ankle pretty good. While I've been doctoring it a bit, I was able to get out to take photos of the horses today & spent some time working with them. I am going to give myself Monday & Tuesday off so things can continue to heal. Because of this, I'm going to subtract 7 days' worth of training from your October invoice to make up for my recovery time. - Lexy Nuesch

Next week's update will be posted on Saturday.

I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
