This week, we continued to work on Hickory's Round Penning, Desensitizing, Yielding the HQ & FQ, Flexing, Backing, Lunging Stage 1, Sending, & Circle Driving. I also introduced Lunging Stage 2 & the Helicopter Exercise.
On Friday, he had his first bath, which went well.
My dentist pushed things back to Saturday as my aunt traveled out here to have her horse done as well & he wanted to do them all at once. Hickory had some sharp points & had lost his upper right molar cap. The dentist noted that there was a bit of a sore there & that the tooth or the enamel might not be formed quite right, so that will be something to keep an eye on down the road as his mouth continues to change. He also had an upper left wolf tooth that we pulled. The dentist also put a bit seat in.
Following his dental, he also received his first trim here (now that my ankle is a bit stronger). He wanted to pull away some on his hind feet, but that will continue to improve as he gets more comfortable. Following his dental, while he was still a bit sedated, he also received his first trim.
With the dentals being pushed back, I opted to wait until we had those done to do his first saddle. We'll do that on Tuesday or Wednesday with a first ride this weekend as long as it's not snowing. - Lexy Nuesch
Next week's update will be posted on Saturday.
I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
