Hero: November 25

This week, Hero rejoined his pen mates in a larger pen. The main focus of our work this week was to work further his softness, & spend a fair bit of time working on my modified Checking Around exercise, where I hold the rein & ask the horse to yield their HQ as they think through that bind to stop their feet & soften to the rein in order to get a full release. We also worked to get those last little goose-y moments out before our first ride by spending time working on Run Up & Rub.

With the in-laws arriving earlier than anticipated on Wednesday in prep for hosting Thanksgiving on Thursday, I had to postpone our first rides. It's not the worst because of the less-than-deal weather that set in on Thursday. However, if he gives me the green light this week, I may go the same route with Hero that I'm going to with Hickory.

Next week, temps look to rise back into the 40s. We'll do some Pick Me Up Off of the Fence, which I may just turn into an unconventional relaxed & easy first ride. If need be, we'll do my more traditional first ride on Sunday.

Next week's update will be posted on Sunday.

I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
