This week, Florida finally had her first ride in the arena!
While we had started the week in the round pen where she was still wanting to be a bit reactive, we moved to the arena & she went to the other extreme of not wanting to move out very well. We were able to walk, trot, & lope at the beginning, but since we had started the ride in the round pen, she didn't have a lot of interest in continuing to lope circles in the arena. While I didn't foresee many issues in the arena, I did expect her to be a bit more forward so that was interesting to note. This will improve as we begin to start our sessions in the arena.
Florida is a great example of why consistency is so important at this stage. We'll likely try to continue with two sessions a day for the next week or two.
Next week, we'll continue riding the arena. We'll work on One Rein Stops & Cruising (think cruise control).
Next week's update will be posted Friday.
