Cactus: August 5

Last weekend's trip to my parent's place near Pierce went well! Cactus loaded/unloaded well, traveled great, settled in well, & ate & drank well considering the heat. We rode the gravel roads, crossed the bridge, & rode through the pastures with my husband & Zakai.

This week, we've continued to ride out & about in prep for Fort Rob. We've been getting comfortable with the cattle as there will be longhorns throughout the pastures at the Fort.

Our session with Jen on Wednesday went well. Cactus absolutely loves Jen's work. Jen found that Cactus was stuck left in his sternum. As to be expected with how Cactus' back is built, Jen found that to bother him the most & to also pull his pelvis forward. Jen was able to work on his pelvis & get it to move a bit, but it still needs some work.

Both Cactus & Zakai continued to soak after their sessions on Thursday.

Today, I would say that I saw a fairly noticeable difference in how Cactus moved & how relaxed he was at the faster gaits. I've suspected that his back & lack of true stability/strength plays a part in his nervousness. I feel that more now.

Next week, we'll try to get down to the Wildlife Management Area. We plan to take off for Fort Robinson on Wednesday afternoon & head home Sunday afternoon.

The next update will be posted on August 15 or 16 once we're back from Fort Robinson.
