This 2-day riding clinic will focus on vertical flexion (the start of collection), side passing, rollbacks, shoulder in/out to gain shoulder control, the start of a turnaround/pivot/spin, working on leads at the lope, stop on whoa, & keeping your horse soft when transitioning down to a walk from a trot or lope. Depending on progress made, we may be able to touch on some of the more advanced exercises like two-tracking, counter bending, more advanced hindquarter control, etc.
To participate in this clinic, you must have participated in one of LNHT's previous Foundation Groundwork/Riding Clinics or have had a private clinic with LNHT. Because there are a few loping specific exercises that will be practiced, it is highly recommended you be comfortable loping your horse on a loose rein.
The tasks in this clinic will be practiced enough for one to understand the basics and see a slight change in one's horse. One then takes it home to practice. Problems will be addressed, but a clinic is not where they are fixed. One will be given the necessary tools to apply them at home.
Day 1: Foundation Groundwork (Problem Solving/Confidence Building)
This is a good clinic for the green rider (ages 14 & up), young horses, or serious students of horsemanship who understand the importance of making the foundation more solid. Skills learned on the ground are related to those needed in the saddle. This will be solely groundwork.

The groundwork portion will cover desensitization to the lead rope/plastic bags/stick & string, yielding the forequarters & hindquarters, backing up, flexing with the halter & bridle, lunging for respect, and more.

BARREL RACING
I started barrel racing at a very young age & it is a large passion of mine. I have taken a slight break from it as I've gotten my business up & running as well as started life in a new location while planning a wedding. I have learned techniques from some professionals in the industry: Ed Wright and Bogie Webb. While I do not formally start client horses on the pattern right now, the foundation applied at LNHT makes it easy to continue progressing right to the pattern. I will be taking horses in for more specific barrel training in the future.
CATTLE EXPOSURE
Horses will likely be exposed to cattle in the pasture at some point during training.
At this time, I do not have the opportunity to rope any live critters.
TrimminG
"No Hoof, No Horse."
I use the ABC Hoofprint Trim which trims a horse's hoof to the interior structures of the foot. This will not be a quick 15 minute trim as I pay substantial attention to detail to address the heels, hoof wall, bar, frog, & dorsal angle. I will often map the hoof to aid in achieving balance. While trimming, I will also educate the owner. I prefer to stay on a 4-8 week schedule, depending on the horse's needs based on structure, terrain, & movement.
Horses in training will be put on a 4-8 week schedule unless you make arrangements with your own farrier.
